Ward 9 Great Neighbourhoods Calgary – Gian-Carlo Carra

This is the official website for Gian-Carlo Carra, City Councillor for Ward 9 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

GREAT NEIGHBOURHOODS MAKE A GREAT CITY

As a city-builder, a City Councillor, a father, and a Calgarian, this is the guiding principle that defines my life’s work. Over the past 20 years, through community advocacy, research, professional practice, and public service, I’ve watched with satisfaction as this principle has moved from the obscurity of expert knowledge to the lifestyle aspiration of a growing majority of Calgarians.

Our Ward 9 Maps highlight the amazing projects, infrastructure, and big dreams that truly make our neighbourhoods and our city GREAT! Order your free copies today, and discover some of magic that exists right here in our own backyards!

NEW! Great neighbourhoods, the ones that thoughtfully consider people and place, incorporating mixed-uses, walkable spaces, and abundant amenities, are one of the best urban design concepts humans have come up with to support the complex, interrelated needs of a diverse economy and a vibrant culture. When these great neighbourhoods are networked together and located in close relationships with industrial landscapes, the stage is set for society to reap supercharged benefits.

The Eventful City Guide to Ward 9 Map pays tribute to the City of Calgary’s flagship work on arts and culture: The Eventful City Strategy, showcasing all that makes Calgary a world-class leader in arts and culture and highlighting the vibrant and culturally rich neighbourhoods of Ward 9 that play a vital role in setting our beloved Calgary up for long-term success.

THE Eventful City Guide to Ward 9

Ward 9 is home to some of the absolute best and most diverse mixed-use neighbourhoods in the city. Abundant multi-cultural food producers and restaurants, innovative urban farming leaders, and thoughtful community resources all working together to improve food security and reconnect Calgarians to our local food system.

But there are also food challenges associated with poverty and accessibility that have continued to worsen as the cost of living and inflation persistently outpace wages.

This map is our snapshot in time as to the state of food access in Ward 9 as well as the beginning of a conversation as to how we may best reintegrate food back into a more resilient understanding of our habitat.

LET’S TALK ABOUT FOOD ACCESS IN WARD 9

Smart, economic and environmentally sustainable growth includes multi-modal transportation that supports walking, cycling, public transit, and reduced reliance on automobiles. Regardless of where we live, work, learn, or play, young children, teens, seniors, women, parents with infants, or those with diverse mobility needs all deserve access to safe, sustainable, accessible, and affordable modes of active transportation.

This map depicts our already amazing active modes network, the projects we’re proud of that the city is actively delivering now, and the missing links that we must turn our advocacy towards. Our objective is to deliver The Dream Network for all ages, all abilities, all the time.
