Community Pedestrian Pass
Updated May 2025: Big changes are underway at the Calgary Zoo!
Exploration Asia is undergoing exciting renovations to create larger, more dynamic habitats and inspire even stronger connections between people and wildlife.
As part of this work, the seasonal West Gate, typically open from spring through fall, will remain closed this year. It is expected to reopen later in the 2028/2029 season.
During this time, all zoo access will be through the main North Gate entrance. Qualifying Inglewood and Ramsay residents are welcome to continue using the West Security entrance throughout the duration of this closure.
Live in Inglewood or Ramsay and have an annual Calgary Zoo membership?
The Calgary Zoo’s seasonal West gate is closed from the fall through the spring. During this time, residents within walking distance of the West Gate (Inglewood and Ramsay) are welcome to use the Zoo’s West Security entrance with two things: a valid Zoo membership and a Ward 9 Community Pedestrian Pass from our office.
To request a pedestrian access pass, send us an email and include:
A photo of your current Calgary Zoo membership
Proof of your address in Inglewood or Ramsay

Before sending your request, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations, noted below.
Reminders for Zoo members in Inglewood and Ramsay during West Gate off-season closures:
Valid only for Inglewood and Ramsay residents who are valid Zoo members. Proof of Zoo membership and address will be required.
Valid only for Day Admissions during West gate closure only– Daily 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
To gain access through the Security entrance, members must present both a valid membership card along with a valid Community Pedestrian Pass.
Access will not be granted without the presentation of both cards
If membership has expired, access through the security gate will not be granted. The security team does not have the capability to capture payment or complete transactions; however, this can be done at the north entrance gate, online or over the phone.
Access applies to pedestrians only; there is no public parking available.
Members entering at the security gate are only able to bring a guest if they have a valid Guest membership or the guest presents a valid day admission ticket.
Members are not able to bring guests who are non-members without a valid day admission ticket as Security does not have the capability to capture payment or complete transactions.
As the security team does not have the capability to capture payment or complete transactions, there will be no special access for any evening events including ZOOLIGHTS.
When the West Entrance is open, community pedestrian passes are not needed. Members should access the zoo using the West Gate as usual. The West Entrance to the Zoo is typically open from the late spring through fall. Contact the Calgary Zoo directly for confirmation.
