National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day on September 30th provides a time to reflect on the experiences of residential school Survivors, honour their stories, and consider meaningful ways to support reconciliation. Beyond wearing orange, here are actions that can help strengthen understanding, build connections, and advance this important work.
For more than a century, thousands of Indigenous children were taken from their homes and placed in residential schools. This government policy had individual, family, and community intergenerational trauma impacts. At The City, we believe you can support Truth and Reconciliation every day.
Join us to commemorate Indian residential school victims, honour survivors and their families, and commit to acting on reconciliation. Remembering the Children.
Calgary saw higher-than-normal rainfall in July and August, leading to saturated turf and unusually thick grass growth across parks, playfields, and roadsides. This has extended mowing times and increased the number of mowing-related 311 requests. The Ward 9 office also received an increase in outreach from constituents concerned about long grass and delays in mowing neighbourhood parks and public spaces.
Calgarians now have a new way to slow down, recharge, and connect with nature. The City of Calgary Parks & Open Spaces has officially opened the Forest Bathing Trail at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary - the first of its kind in the city.
The City of Calgary is excited to welcome back the Curbside Treasure Hunt - a citywide weekend of giving, finding, and reusing. On September 6 and 7, 2025, Calgarians are invited to set out gently used, reusable items for neighbours to pick up and enjoy. Think of it as a giant, free garage sale that spans the entire city!

The City of Calgary is working to improve transit along 52 Street East, and we need your help!
We're exploring options to upgrade Route 23 into a faster, more reliable Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. As part of this process, we are conducting a Functional Planning Study to gather feedback and shape the future of transit along this important corridor.
This initiative is part of Calgary Transit’s long-term strategic plan, Route Ahead, and focuses on a 30 kilometre stretch of 52 Street East, from Saddletowne Circle in Saddle Ridge to Seton. The upgraded service will provide faster, more reliable transit, with upgraded station amenities similar to the MAX routes, connecting key destinations for work, living, and recreation.

Beginning July 16, 2025, mobile tickets on othe My Fare and Transit apps will require validation on platforms before boarding a CTrain. The My Fare app will be updated to require tickets to be activated by a customer and then validated through scanning on a platform validator. Just like paper tickets, customers riding without a validated proof of fare could face a fine. This new process will increase the proper use of mobile tickets.

This is a lesson Indigenous artist Flora Johnson shared with the volunteer youth artists she worked with to create a new mural at the Erin Woods Community Association. Titled Inspiration, the mural holds a story not only in its imagery, but in the journey surrounding its creation.
From now through the early fall, The City of Calgary’s engagement practices are being reviewed by an independent company, KPMG. The Engagement Review aims to improve how The City engages with Calgarians.
Engagement means having meaningful conversations between The City and Calgary residents, as well as other groups or communities. Engagement may include activities like community meetings, surveys and online feedback forms open to everyone. The City’s Engage Policy defines engagement as “Purposeful dialogue between The City, impacted or interested Calgarians and other communities or groups to gather information to influence decision-making.”
This summer, the team at Common Ground is hitting the road to hear directly from Albertans about how they see their province, politics, and future. With so much change over the past year, this is a timely opportunity to connect, listen, and better understand what matters most to people across Alberta.
The City is designing improvements to pathways and bikeways for communities in Marlborough Park, Albert Park Radisson Heights, Penbrooke Meadows, Forest Heights, Forest Lawn, Dover, Southview and Erin Woods. These communities were selected because they align with Calgary's established Pathway and Bikeway Network. The proposed route designs aim to better connect Calgarians to their homes, work, school, parks and services. When routes are improved, they provide safe, healthy, and affordable travel choices for people of all ages and all abilities, year-round.
