Public input was gathered from June 7 - July 14, 2025 for Phase 2: Explore Design Options. Public input from Phase 1 and 2 will be considered with factors such as cost, environmental impact, technical constraints, and policies that influence our final designs.
A new 2.45 kilometre 3-metre-wide multi-use pathway is being constructed on the east side of 68 Street NE between Abbotsford Drive and Applewood Drive NE.
This pathway will provide a dedicated space for people to safely walk and wheel through the community and will connect to the city's larger network of pathways and bikeways.
Construction is expected to begin in late July 2025 and be completed in Q3 2026, weather and conditions permitting.

The City is currently planning for upcoming road construction along 17 Avenue SE between Hubalta Road SE and the Stoney Trail limits.
Our contractor, Aecon, is scheduled to begin milling, concrete rehabilitation, and paving activities the week of June 9, with anticipated completion in late June.

The Salvation Army East Calgary Community Hub has a new youth program called The Bunker. They wll be hosting a variety of events geared towards kids ages 13-17 in East Calgary throughout the summer. Community Cleanup events provide an opportunity for Calgarians to dispose of items that do not fit in their waste and recycling carts. They also support community residents who do not have access to cart service.
All events take place on Saturdays or Sundays (from 9am to 2pm)
As part of The City’s commitment to protect the public and environment, joint training sessions for Calgary Fire and Water Services are scheduled The training will focus on responding to substance spills or releases into waterbodies, ranging from daily routine cleanups all the way to large incidents requiring activation of Water Services’ emergency operations or The City of Calgary Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).
Just North of Ward 9 sits Big Marlborough Park. The City of Calgary has plans to improve park amenities at and create a space that can be enjoyed by Calgarians of all ages.
The project is in the preliminary master plan phase and will focus on conceptualizing and designing park enhancements.
The City of Calgary takes a proactive approach to protecting and replacing utility infrastructure assets. As part of this work, The City will be inspecting and cleaning of the Penbrooke sanitary trunk.

Through a partnership between Alpha House, Distress Centre, Calgary Police Service, and City of Calgary, District 4 (which includes most Ward 9 communities east of Deerfoot Trail) now has a call diversion program available to residents seeking assistance for non-emergency social disorder concerns.
Call 2-1-1 and the Alpha House HELP team will be deployed when EMS or CPS response is not required. HELP aims to be onsite within 20 minutes, and works to divert socially complex, high need individuals from law enforcement response and unnecessary healthcare use at the street level.
Waste & Recycling Services routinely conducts waste cart spot checks to make sure the right items are going into the right carts, provide direct education to households, and lower contamination rates.
In the past, checks have been unannounced, however after feedback from Calgarians and following the lead of other municipalities, The City of Calgary is piloting a program that provides advanced notification to residents prior to doing cart checks.
Elliston Village is actively developing. The project’s developers, Lansdowne, are proposing a change in height and density to Phases 5 and 6 of their comprehensive residential development that will feature townhomes, apartments, and community amenity spaces. A Land Use Amendment (LUA) will be submitted to The City of Calgary.
Please be advised that Elliston Park will be temporarily closed to the public on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21, 2024 in order to host the 2024 Cold Garden Limber Disc Golf Open.
There will be a temporary 18-hole disc gold course installed at the park. For the safety of park user and tournament participants, public access will be closed over the weekend.

One of the best days of the year is just around the corner! Neighbour Day is Calgary’s celebration of community connection. Held each year on the third Saturday in June, Neighbour Day is a step toward creating welcoming and inclusive communities where neighbours connect and belong every day of the year.
Neighbour Day 2024 will include two kick-off events on May 4 to help raise awareness of Neighbour Day and invite Calgarians to start planning their own Neighbour Day block party or community event for June 15.
Based on public input from Phase 1: Discover and Phase 2: Explore, along with the technical evaluation factors (see tabs above), a recommended plan has been developed for Memorial Drive. The recommended plan reflects development of a new Urban Boulevard with a level at-grade crossing of the CN Rail tracks, and an overpass across Stoney Trail with no access to the highway. Please review and provide feedback about the recommended plan with the tabs below, arranged from west to east.
Jane’s Walk 2024 is back and taking place May 3rd through 5th. Calgarians of all ages are invited to participate in free walking tours throughout a variety of communities and areas of interest in the city!
A global event inspired by and in honour of Jane Jacobs, an urbanist and activist who championed a fresh, community-based approach to city building. Jane believed that in order to properly observe how people, through their actions and interactions, create communities with a strong sense of belonging, we need to get out and walk the city.
In order to facilitate urgent electrical repairs, Bob Bahan Aquatic & Fitness Centre will need to temporarily close.
Beginning April 14, 2024, service will be reduced to only swimming lessons and swim clubs in preparation for the repairs, followed by a full facility closure on May 6, 2024. We anticipate the facility will be closed for approximately three to four months.
Repairs at Bob Bahan Aquatic & Fitness Centre are extensive, and while we anticipate the reopening of the facility by the fall of 2024, timelines may shift as more information is gathered during the repairs.

Calgary saw higher-than-normal rainfall in July and August, leading to saturated turf and unusually thick grass growth across parks, playfields, and roadsides. We're exploring options to upgrade Route 23 into a faster, more reliable Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. As part of this process, we are conducting a Functional Planning Study to gather feedback and shape the future of transit along this important corridor.
This initiative is part of Calgary Transit’s long-term strategic plan, Route Ahead, and focuses on a 30 kilometre stretch of 52 Street East, from Saddletowne Circle in Saddle Ridge to Seton. The upgraded service will provide faster, more reliable transit, with upgraded station amenities similar to the MAX routes, connecting key destinations for work, living, and recreation.
After an extensive, Indigenous-led design competition, The Wandering Spirit, presented by groundcubed and Adrian Stimson, has been selected as the design concept for Calgary’s future Indian Residential School Memorial (IRSM). Beginning July 16, 2025, mobile tickets on othe My Fare and Transit apps will require validation on platforms before boarding a CTrain. The My Fare app will be updated to require tickets to be activated by a customer and then validated through scanning on a platform validator. Just like paper tickets, customers riding without a validated proof of fare could face a fine. This new process will increase the proper use of mobile tickets.

This is a lesson Indigenous artist Flora Johnson shared with the volunteer youth artists she worked with to create a new mural at the Erin Woods Community Association. Titled Inspiration, the mural holds a story not only in its imagery, but in the journey surrounding its creation.

Commissioning of the newly installed equipment at the Glenmore and Bearspaw Water Treatment Plants is nearly complete and fluoride will start being reintroduced into drinking water starting Monday, June 30, 2025.
The City of Calgary follows Health Canada’s Guidance for Community Water Fluoridation, which identifies optimal fluoride levels to be 0.7 milligrams per liter (mg/L) to prevent and reduce tooth decay. To protect public health, we will begin adding fluoride gradually, carefully monitoring and adjusting the levels until we achieve the 0.7 mg/L optimal level.
The 2025 Servus Calgary Marathon is taking place on Sunday, May 25th. Celebrating its 60th year, the Calgary Marathon is Canada’s longest running marathon and Alberta’s Best Road Race.
