Introducing Sport Hub: increase access to sports for kids and teens
Sport Hub is a new collaboration between The City of Calgary, school boards, sport organizations, and community partners. It aims to increase access to sport opportunities for kids and teens between the ages of 5-18, resudng barriers to participation in sport by delivering free or low-cost, high-quality sport lessons directly in schools and communities.
Sport organizations are contracted to deliver inclusive, skill-building programs, led by certified coaches and tailored to meet the diverse needs of participants. Participants will be introduced to different sports in a fun way, helping them learn new skills through games, drills and practice matches. Instructors encourage participants to learn, play and grow in a non-competitive setting.
Classes run for 75 minutes, twice a week, for four weeks.
Programs take place in convenient community locations such as community halls, public courts and gymnasiums.
Set to offically launch this fall, Sport Hub lessons are available year-round with ongoing registration. The soft launch of Sport Hub will begin in spring and summer 2025. with programs offered in the Ward 9 commuites of Dover and Forest Lawn (as well as city-wide in Abbeydale, Huntington Hills, Mayland Heights, Saddle Ridge, Shawnessy and Thorncliffe.)
