NEW Pathway Project: 68 Street NE
A new 2.45 kilometre 3-metre-wide multi-use pathway is being constructed on the east side of 68 Street NE between Abbotsford Drive and Applewood Drive NE.
This pathway will provide a dedicated space for people to safely walk and wheel through the community and will connect to the city's larger network of pathways and bikeways.
Construction is expected to begin in July 2025 and be completed in Q3 2026, weather and conditions permitting.
2025: Starting in late July, segments of the existing sidewalk along the route will be removed and replaced with the new multi-use pathway. This work will continue through the remainder of 2025.
2026: Work will focus on intersections and the pathway segment south of the railway tracks.
Construction Details:
Work may take place anytime between 7 am and 7 pm, Monday to Saturday. The following impacts can be expected:
Single-lane road closures are expected, but two-way traffic will be maintained. When possible, these closures will be scheduled during non-peak hours to minimize disruptions.
The existing sidewalk along the route will be closed where construction is occurring. The contractor will provide safe detour routes for pedestrians and cyclists.
Some trees will need to be trimmed or removed to accommodate the wider pathway. These activities will occur with a qualified arborist and under the supervision of Urban Forestry. Any trees removed will be replaced with new trees in the community.
