2025 Boards, Commissions, and Committees Recruitment
The City of Calgary’s annual Boards, Commissions, and Committees (BCC) recruitment campaign begins on Tuesday 2025 August 5 at 8:00 a.m. and closes on Thursday 2025 September 4 at 4:00 p.m.
BCCs provide City Council with perspectives and recommendations regarding important civic issues. They also play an integral role in bringing together Calgarians and The City to achieve the common goal of strengthening the community.
Eligibility and Process
All applicants must:
be at least 18 years old;
be a resident of Calgary, or an Indigenous person residing within the Treaty 7 region; and
meet the specific eligibility criteria outlined for each BCC in bylaws or legislation.
The appointment process includes:
Completion of an application form and submission to the City Clerk’s Office;
Application review by the BCC Chair and members based on skills and qualifications;
Calgary Police Commission appointments will be made by City Council at their Organizational Meeting on Nov. 3, 2025;
Nominations Committee consideration and recommendations for all other Boards, Commissions and Committees appointments will be on Nov. 20, 2025; and
Final appointments to Boards, Commissions and Committees will be made by City Council at the Regular Meeting of Council on Boards, Commissions and Committees on Dec. 4, 2025.
Inclusion of Treaty 7 Indigenous Applicants
Indigenous persons who reside outside Calgary but within the Treaty 7 region are eligible and encouraged to apply for vacant BCC positions. This includes members of the:
Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Piikani, Amskaapipiikani, Kainai)
Îethka Nakoda Wîcastabi First Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw, Goodstoney)
Tsuut’ina First Nation
Métis citizens, including those from Otipemisiwak Métis Government in Districts 1–6
Remuneration and Expense Policy
Council’s Policy on the Remuneration and Expenses for Public Members Serving on Council-Established Boards, Commissions and Committees will come into effect on 2026 January 1. Public Members appointed to BCCs by Council will receive stipends for their participation in BCC meetings, and reasonable expenses will be covered.
This rewarding opportunity allows Calgarians and Indigenous persons residing in the Treaty 7 region to actively participate in civic matters. The City encourages all those who are qualified, and especially those who may never have considered participating before, to apply for the exciting opportunity of becoming a Public Member on a BCC.
