4TH AVENUE FLYOVER REHABILITATION - Fall Update
The 4th Avenue Flyover continue to undergo rehabilitation work that begin in Apriil 2024. Paving is complete, the bridge has reopened to two lanes for peak hours, and we are just one major milestone away from completing our work on the 4th Avenue Flyover!
Sign structure installation is coming up this month requiring closures to westbound Memorial Drive near the flyover. We are anticipating the closure to be impactful to commuters, especially as students head back to classes in September, and encourage those travelling downtown to plan ahead.
Here’s what commuters can expect in the home stretch of construction:
Closures to westbound Memorial Drive
Beginning from 9 Street N.E. on August 28th, the right-hand, westbound lane of Memorial Drive will be closed during off-peak hours for approximately 1-2 weeks to lay the foundations for the roadway sign installation.
A 24/7 closure of the same lane will then be required starting on September 8th for approximately a week to complete installation. Delays can be expected, so we encourage commuters to plan ahead.
Additional off-peak closures to Memorial Drive may be required in mid- to late September to finish the sign structure installation.
Rolling nighttime full bridge closures
To install the bridge railings, full bridge nighttime closures will be required beginning in mid-September and are expected to last until mid-October. The closures will be short in duration and disruptions to motorists will be minimal.
We’re looking forward to wrapping this project up soon and appreciate Calgarians’ cooperation while we put the finishing touches on the flyover.
