4TH AVENUE FLYOVER REHABILITATION - May Update
With the warmer weather comes another busy construction season for The City and the final construction season for the 4th Avenue Flyover. The bridge rehabilitation is still on track (and on budget) to be completed later this fall.
Crews recently completed another milestone, replacing the right barrier, leaving only a couple of major works left to complete on the bridge: paving and installing the sign structures.
Once paving has been completed, we are optimistic that we will be able to safely reopen both lanes of the flyover to traffic during peak times this summer. The project team is working hard to make this possible, however paving operations are highly weather-dependent and can only proceed if conditions are favourable to ensure safety and quality standards are met.
That said, we can anticipate closures to both the Flyover and to Memorial Drive over the next couple of months to facilitate the final phases of construction.
Here’s what’s coming up:
FULL BRIDGE CLOSURES
Milling and paving operations
May 30 from 9:00 PM to June 2 at 5:00 AM
June 5 from 9:00 PM to June 6 at 5:00 AM
June 6 from 9:00 PM to June 9 at 5:00 AM
MEMORIAL DRIVE (WESTBOUND BEGINNING AT 9 STREET NE) LANE CLOSURE
Sign structure foundations
Begins the week of May 26 for a period of about 2 weeks
4 AVENUE S.E. LANE CLOSURE (NEAR 3 STREET SE) & FULL CLOSURE OF 3 STREET SE
Milling and paving operations
May 30 from 9:00 PM to June 2 at 5:00 AM
We sincerely appreciate the community’s continued understanding and patience as we enter the final phase of the 4th Avenue Flyover Rehabilitation. The flyover is still an active construction site, and we ask drivers to continue to obey all road signage and to reduce your speed while travelling through the area.
