Upcoming Pathway Construction: 18th Street SE
A new multi-use pathway is coming to Ogden, creating safer, more connected routes for people walking and wheeling in the community.
Project Overview
Construction will begin this fall on a 2.1-kilometre, 3-metre-wide asphalt pathway along 18 Street SE, from 66 Avenue S.E. to River Valley Drive S.E. Work will continue into 2026, with timelines subject to weather and ground conditions.
When complete, this pathway will connect to Calgary’s larger network of pathways and bikeways, creating a safer and more accessible route through the area.
Key Features
Replacement of sidewalk segments and informal trails with a continuous asphalt pathway.
Wheelchair ramps installed at intersections for safer, more accessible crossings.
Improved connection to the Glenmore Trail overpass.
Construction Impacts
Work will take place between 7 am and 7 pm, Monday to Saturday. The following impacts are expected during construction:
Single-lane road closures, with two-way traffic maintained.
Temporary sidewalk closures along the route, with safe detour routes provided for pedestrians and cyclists.
Tree trimming and some removals where required for the wider pathway. All work will be completed under the supervision of a qualified arborist and The City of Calgary’s Urban Forestry team. New trees will be planted in the community to maintain and enhance the urban forest.
