Inglewood Sanitary Trunk Project - Construction Update

To meet the current and projected wastewater needs, we have added 3.5 km of new sanitary pipe (Phase One) and will be adding another 600 m of sanitary pipe (Phase Two). This new trunk is critical to maintaining a high-level of sanitary service to Inglewood and surrounding communities.

In early December, City crews will begin setting up the construction area on the south side of the Bow River. They will be creating a safe, protected space so they can mobilize and start work quickly in the new year. We are confirming construction timelines for 2024 and will ensure this page is kept up-to-date.

Temporary Closure of Southview Off-Leash Park

On December 7th and 8th, early construction work and soil investigation is scheduled ahead of the planned twinning of the Ivor Strong Bridge.

As result. a temporary closure of Southview/Dover off-leash dog area is required to allow crews and equipment safe access to the work area while protecting the public and pets from the active work area within the park. The park will reopen to the public on December 9.

Greenline Construction Update: 78 Avenue Project – Secant Pile Wall + CPKC Track Installation

Following the completion of the secant pile wall at the 78 Avenue project site, additional work will begin, including:

(1) The installation of a secant pile wall at the 72 Avenue site; and
(2) The installation of the CPKC tracks on the 78 Avenue diversion embankment.

These challenges and opportunities are grounded in the perspective I have as a 10+ year advocate and champion of the GreenLine in my role as the area’s City Councillor, as well as my 20+ year role as an urban design professional working with East Calgary Communities towards the transit-oriented future we are now on the brink of achieving.

The Mustard Seed - Ogden Hub:29

Set to open early next year, the former United church site is now being stewarded by The Mustard Seed, delivering a unique mixed-use social hub and affordable housing project in the community. Hub:29 was designed to bring people together, exemplifying the true meaning of community, anchored in the betterment and wellbeing of all residents.

Chinook Community Local Area Planning - Phase II Engagement

From November 30th - December 10th, we will be collecting donations for the Calgary Food Bank as part of the Mayor’s Annual Food Drive.

Like Food Banks across the country, the Calgary Food Bank has seen an unprecedented increase in demand this past year. In 2022, Council raised just over $80,000 in food and funds for Calgarians in need. We hope to surpass that number this year.

On November 10th, Love with Humanity Association in collaboration with the SE Calgary Community Resource Centre, celebrated the grand opening of a new community outdoor food pantry and multicultural outdoor free library in Ogden.

Community food pantries provide easy, dignified access to food for anyone who needs it. No questions asked, no referral needed. Community members can collectively donate food to the pantry for their neighbours in need to utilize.

GreenLine Construction - 78th Avenue SE Seasonal Outlook

The 78 Avenue Project is a significant undertaking and will be completed prior to main Green Line construction in this location. The project will enhance mobility and pedestrian safety around the future Ogden station. The 78 Avenue Project includes 3 elements:

A vehicle tunnel through the embankment at 78 Avenue S.E.
A pedestrian tunnel through the embankment at 72 Avenue S.E.
Road upgrades for 78 Avenue S.E. and Ogden Dale Road S.E. Once complete, 69 Avenue S.E. will be permanently closed at the intersection with the CPKC tracks.

Bridgeland Active Modes Improvements – Construction Update

Although we were hopeful to finish construction on the Bridetland Active Modes Improvements this year, warm and dry weather is necessary in order to complete the remaining work. Due to inclement weather, construction timelines for this project have changed. The remainder of the work is now being scheduled to be completed in the 2024 construction season.
