The way Calgarians get around is changing. More people are choosing to walk, scoot, skateboard, or cycle for their daily commute to work or school, for errands and for fun. As a city, we want to provide convenient and attractive transportation choices for Calgarians of all ages and abilities.
This project will provide a wider sidewalk for walking and wheeling, improved pedestrian crossings, and a better connection within the pathway and bikeway network.
Construction will begin in late August and is anticipated to be complete by late 2022. One lane of traffic will be closed to vehicles to ensure crews can work efficiently and safely. Pedestrian detours will also be in place. Please note any signage, barriers, and markings in the area.

The City of Calgary is planning for the future of Memorial Drive and wants to learn about the community’s ideas for and issues with the extension area.
The roadway extension will expand the connection between communities and businesses on both sides of Stoney Trail, supporting the Belvedere Area Structure Plan from Abbeydale and Applewood Park to the city limits at 116 Street East.
The Belvedere Area Structure plan has a projected population of over 61,000 and approximately 10,000 jobs.
The Functional Planning Study will help us understand the community’s current and prospective needs. This will position us to best plan for design and construction, which will be dependent on future funding availability.
