The Bridgeland Main Street project, part of The City’s larger Main Streets program, is moving into its next stage of construction, with work being focused on the 1st Avenue NE blocks between 6 and 7 Street NE. This next stage of work is slated to begin on June 27th and last for approximately 8 weeks.

As part of the City’s commitment to creating safer and more accessible streets for all users, the following upgrades are being made at all four corners of the intersection at 5 Avenue + 8 Street NE:

• Curb extensions on the west side to shorten pedestrian crossing distances and increase visibility

• Updated wheelchair ramps on the east side to meet modern accessibility standards

Are part of the Bridgeland MainStreets project, below is an updated construction schedule for the ongoing utilities work along 1 Avenue NE as part of the ENMAX scope of work.

ENMAX’s contractor will be installing underground utilities along 1 Avenue N.E from Edmonton Trail N.E. to 4 Street N.E. To complete this work safely and efficiently, portions of 1 Avenue N.E. will be closed in stages over the coming weeks.We anticipate the new lane closure and parking changes will begin Friday, May 9, 2025, and will remain in effect for the duration of this stage of the construction (expected to be roughly 8 weeks). 

As part of the ongoing construction along 1 Avenue N.E. in Bridgeland, the City of Calgary will be adjusting road closures on 1 Avenue N.E. and shifting temporary parking restrictions and vehicle detours around the area to help facilitate the safe construction and safe public navigation around new streetscape improvement work.

We anticipate the new lane closure and parking changes will begin Friday, May 9, 2025, and will remain in effect for the duration of this stage of the construction (expected to be roughly 8 weeks).
